About the Award

To pupils taking part in the Westminster Book Award:

Unlike adult book awards, the Westminster Book Award is an award made by you - the children who read the books. You'll be voting for one of six books on the short list, which have been chosen by your teachers and recommended by the Schools Library Service.

Several copies of each book have been made available to each Year 6 and 7 class in your schools. This is so that you can talk about them and vote for them in class and online. On this website you can publish your own reviews and comments, as well as read each other's. You can also complete quizzes on the books, get ideas for activities based on them, and find out about the authors.

Our aim is to show you how reading is not just something you do on your own, but a sociable thing to do with your friends at school and online. We also want to give you some really good reads, and there's something on the short list for everyone, whether you usually read very little or a lot.

However, the Westminster Book Award is also about making the move to secondary school an easier one for Year 6s and 7s. The book award aims to bring primary and secondary school pupils together in a joint, fun project that boosts your literacy skills, and gives you confidence about entering a new, bigger school and a new phase in your lives.

Every book and every school is a new world. Enjoy them!
